Something strange is happening across Ireland for the next two weeks, something called a “Heat wave”! This is not a word used often in Ireland so it’s got everyone very excited and if you happen to be in Dublin for this historic event you should be too. So leave your raincoats at home and take full advantage of the beautiful weather by soaking up the sun in some of Dublin’s beautiful parks or beaches. Here are my recommendations for the top five Dublin picnic spots during a heatwave .

First on my list of the top five Dublin picnic spots would have to be the Phoenix Park, which is a short Luas ride away. It is one of the largest enclosed recreational spaces within any European capital city. Within its walls it holds many attractions, such as; The Victorian People’s Flower Gardens, Áras an Uachtaráin (the Presidents house), and Dublin Zoo. In the vast greenery of this park there are many spots to set up a picnic and have a lazy sunny day.
2. Next on my list is St. Stephens Green, which is located on the Southside of the City Centre. It is just beside one of the main shopping districts in Dublin and has plenty of picnic spots so it’s perfect if you wanna take a load off after a long day of trekking the stores.
3. For a quieter Dublin picnic spot, Merrion Square, is a smaller and beautifully serene park in the heart of the City. It’s much quieter than Stephens Green, which can get overrun on Dublin’s rare sunny days, and a great place to get some peace and quiet in the middle of a busy city.
4. If you feel like venturing outside the city to see some of Dublin’s beautiful coastline, then Howth is my number one choice. It is easily accessible by bus and train and has plenty of take-away fish and chip shops for a hot picnic lunch while sitting on the pier or admiring the lovely view from the beach.
5. Another choice for a sunny picnic outside Dublin’s City Centre is Dun Laoghaire. Located on the Southside of County Dublin, it is an old fishing port town and has a long pier to work off those picnic pounds.
