Revelries and jollies for all. The Temple Bar Tradfest is in town from the 22nd til the 26th. The very best of hand clapping, foot stomping, Irish jigging, traditional music right in the centre of Dublin. Visitors come from far and wide for the yearly festival that is spread out over the famous Temple Bar district. With the huge increase of musicians in the city, the Trad is one of the best times to be in Dublin.
Starting today, the festival runs through the weekend with all kinds of traditional and not so traditional music and events. Classic Celtic music, Irish dancing, and Gaelic games are twinned with electro-fushion and Latvian films to create the great festival of culture.
From tonight until Friday is the Audience with Legends series of gigs. A set of one hour, one off gigs in the intimate surrounds of local Temple Bar pubs. The gigs, which start at 6pm, give the audience an up close and personal experience with some of the most prolific Irish bands. World renowned and chart topping acts such as The Fureys, The Dublin Legends, The Dublin City Ramblers, Bagatelle, and The Kilkennys. The nights round off with ‚Live at the Hub‘ at the VAT House. A venue where new and old players come together to play into the night.
The weekend is host to events running throughout the days and large concerts in the evenings. Irish dancing and music starts from 11am until 7pm at the open air stages in Crown Alley and Meeting House Square. The countryside comes into the city in East Essex street with a petting farm and Gaelic games experience. Try you hand at Gaelic football and hurling, but watch out for the animals!
In partnership with the Latvian embassy, the festival will also be showcasing Riga, the European city of culture. The short films ‚RIGA from Above‘ and ‚RIGA in 24 hours‘ will be showing all week at the Dublin City Hall. All of the events above are free entry and will give you the most authentic experience of new and old Irish culture. Have an exciting look at Temple Bar, a sight many visitors see but not quite like this, and revel all that craic.
