Interesting and Quirky Markets in Dublin

Dublin has a mountain of weird and wacky markets, ranging from the indoor to outdoor, with either a selection of world cuisines, fine art and jewellery, to someone’s old junk that turn into treasures for other people to enjoy.

Firstly my favourite market in Dublin is Dublin’s Flea market which unfortunately only happens once a month on the last Sunday of the month. This happens in the Coombe in what is considered old Dublin. . People come along with their broom closets cleared out and try to sell most of their ..’stuff ’ for a reasonable price. There are some interesting characters to see there not just the articles of clothing and furniture and bits and bobs that are on sale. The coffee and falafel are a crowd favourite. There are usually over 60 plus stalls regularly and they also have regular Dj’s and bands playing to make the whole experience worth enjoying. My second favourite market is the Howth food Market which takes place every Sunday during the summer. Howth is a beautiful little fishing village located approx 35mins north of Dublin city centre. This place is well known for it’s scenery, so add a mix of exotic meats and Arabian spicy foods into all of that and it adds to the occasion. Plenty of people throng here on the weekend for  a tasty ostrich burger or bison burger.Eating on the green while watching the sail boats go by is a must do in my book. Top that all off with a ‘99’ ice cream cone and totally worth the trip. Markets in the City:

Temple Bar Food market This weekly food market takes place every Saturday from 10am – 4.30pm at Meeting House Square under the new retractable canopy. It is very similar to the Howth food market and can be enjoyed by anyone hungry within the top tourist area of the city.

Temple Bar Book market takes place every saturday and sunday from 11am to 6pm and is located in the hub of temple bar, the busiest place, Temple bar square. This is  a quaint small book have and is also a good place to pick up some rare records for the music fan among you.

Temple Bar Designer Market takes place every Saturday from 10 am to 5 pm on Cow’s lane in the old viking area of  Temple bar, Temple Bar Old City. This outdoor market showcases the very best of handmade craft & design produced by Irish and Ireland-based artists. Great for browsing for gifts, or a treat for yourself, the independent designers, craftspeople and artists are on hand to give you an insight into their craft and story behind any individual piece.

Christchurch Cathedral Lunchtime Food Market:

Located in the old part of the City, where the VIkings decided to settle, they try to recreate the busy hustle and bustle of the olden times. Every Thursday and Saturday lunchtime the grounds of the cathedral will be teeming with delicious food, courtesy of Irish Village Markets. From bratwurst to burritos, falafel to fairy cakes, there will be something for everyone.

Georges Street Arcade:

This market just off George’s Street in Dublin 2 is open 7 days a week, has a nice indoor arcade building in itself which is worth a look, products insider range from local artists, to vintage clothing and record collections, coupled with some bubble tea, a new craze sweeping the city. The local chipper sits snuggly in there too..they pretty much have something for everyone, arts crafts and cheap tacky wigs!. The hat shop is worth a look along with simon’s place, the local cafe which has some awesome cinnamon rolls!
